Valour and Cavalry meet for the second time this season, following a 1-0 win by the home side in Calgary back on August 8. Cavalry is now tied for first overall in the CPL standings with Pacific FC, both with identical 8-4-3 records, and following their 1-nil win over FC Edmonton on Wednesday.

Valour is in fourth place in the standings with their 7-1-7 record and in their last match fell 3-2 to Pacific on the West coast last Sunday. Today’s match starts an important stretch at home for Valour, as seven of its next eight CPL games are at home – not including a September 15th Canadian Championship match in Hamilton against Forge FC.

Of note: Cavalry is the one CPL team Valour has never beaten in its history, with just one draw against five defeats in six meetings.

#42 Rafael Galhardo, FW: He’s completely settled in with Valour now and flashing his skillset every match. In last Sunday’s loss to Pacific he created five chances – more than twice as much as any other player on the pitch.

#12 Rocco Romeo, D: It was always going to be a tall order for Valour FC to replace Andrew Jean-Baptiste, but Romeo – on loan from Toronto FC — has found his place with his new squad on the back row and wore the captain’s arm band in the club’s last match.

#9 Austin Ricci, F: He scored again against Pacific, giving him five on the season. He’s evolved into a solid finisher and brings an aggressiveness to the attack coveted by managers everywhere.

Valour will be without dominant centre back Andrew Jean-Baptiste for the rest of the season with a torn ACL; also on the mend is MF Jose Galan.
