MATCH #25

ATLÉTICO OTTAWA (5-6-14) vs VALOUR  FC (8-4-12)

When: Wednesday, October 20, 6 p.m. CDT

Where: The Stadium at TD Place, Ottawa, Ont.

How to watch: OneSoccer is broadcasting all CPL games live https://onesoccer.ca/

MATCH PREVIEW:

Valour has four matches remaining and still some ground to make up if the squad wants to qualify for the Canadian Premier League playoffs. That makes Wednesday’s match in Ottawa virtually a must-win.

Valour is in sixth place in the standings and five points back of HFX Wanderers, who currently hold the fourth and final playoff spot. Sandwiched in between the two clubs is York United FC, with 32 points.

Valour has one win, two draws and three defeats since Philip Dos Santos became the new GM and head coach and is coming off a 3-2 loss to league-leading Pacific FC in Victoria on the weekend.

Of Valour’s four remaining matches, three are on the road – Wednesday in Ottawa, next Tuesday at home to the Wanderers and then October 30th in Calgary against Cavalry FC and November 6 in northern Alberta against FC Edmonton.

3 VALOUR FC PLAYERS TO WATCH

#19 William Akio, FW: Akio has scored spectacular goals in consecutive games now and is tied with the injured Austin Ricci for second on the club with five goals – one behind Moses Dyer.

#8 Keven Alemán: Valour struggled for stretches in the first half against Pacific to create anything on the attack. Alemán can help on that front with his offensive flair and his ability to distribute.

#77 Federico Pena, D: Played all 90 minutes in the loss to Pacific. His speed is critical in tracking down attackers, but also with the ball on his foot moving forward.

INJURED

-Valour has been without dominant centre back Andrew Jean-Baptiste for most of the season after he suffered a torn ACL in the Kickoff bubble at the start of the season. Jean-Baptiste did sign a contract extension this week to remain with the club next season https://valourfc.canpl.ca/article/i-wanted-to-commit-to-them-we-want-to-achieve-big-things-here-andrew-jean-baptiste-returns-for-2022-season

-Forward and leading scorer Austin Ricci is also unavailable for the rest of the year due to a knee injury suffered in the Canadian Championship quarterfinal loss to Forge FC.

-Midfielder Brett Levis was injured in the first half of the loss to Pacific and did not return. His status for Wednesday is questionable.

-Masta Kacher suffered an injury and will be unavailable for the rest of the season.
