MATCH PREVIEW:

Valour returns to league play after Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Forge FC in the Canadian Championship quarterfinal. That game was costly for the club as leading scorer Austin Ricci was injured in the second half in a collision with Forge goalkeeper Triston Henry – while scoring – and he could be out for a spell.

The squad could use some sort of spark, having just one win and one draw in its last 10 matches and, in the process, has now dropped to fifth and out of the CPL playoff picture. York United FC has leap-frogged past Valour into the fourth and final playoff spot after posting two wins and two draws in its last four.

Valour plays five of its next six at home, the lone road trip a visit to York FC. Four of the club’s final five are on the road.

3 VALOUR FC PLAYERS TO WATCH

#21 Jose Galan, MF: The veteran Spaniard has had minutes in the last two matches as he returns to action after a long absence due to injury. Valour could use some of his calming presence and decision making in the middle of the park.

#1 Jonathan Sirois, MF: Matt Silva played valiantly in the Canadian Championship loss and Sirois could get the call with the return to league play. He still leads the CPL in saves (62) and is tied for the league lead in clean sheets (7)

#19 William Akio, F: The injury to Ricci leaves a gaping hole in the attack and Akio could get a long look in his place. He has been productive, with three goals in his 876 minutes of action.

INJURED

Valour is without dominant centre back Andrew Jean-Baptiste, as he is out for the season with a torn ACL. Now add Austin Ricci to a list that also includes two other key players in MF Andy Baquero and D Stefan Cebara.
