WINNIPEG, MB., March 15, 2019 – Valour FC today announce the addition of current Manchester United, UEFA and FIFA Technical Consultant, John Peacock, to the coaching staff as Technical Consultant. Peacock will split his time between other duties in England and abroad and his role in Winnipeg, and join the club at key points throughout the season assisting with coaching, scouting and overall management of all technical components of the club
Peacock brings a wealth of knowledge to Valour FC, with over 35 years of experience in international team management, coach education and professional youth development. Peacock currently runs his own consultancy: Unite Elite Coaching Ltd. with clients such as the Football Association, FIFA, UEFA, Chinese FA, and Manchester United.
“I am delighted to be joining Valour FC in a consultancy capacity,” said Peacock. “I know Rob Gale very well and he spoke very passionately about the club, its aims and importantly their values, which are closely aligned with my own. Whilst I will not be able to commit on a full-time basis, I will constantly be offering support and advice at a distance to Rob, his staff and players.”
In 1998, Peacock joined Derby County FC (Premier Leauge) as Academy Manager where he stayed until 2002, when he was hired at the England FA as coach of the U-17 team.
Peacock became the first England manager to win the UEFA U-17 European Championship in 2010 and then repeated that feat in 2014, becoming the most successful England manager at any level. The team was the runner up in 2007, made two semi-finals and three quarter-final appearances, as well as qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Championships in 2007, 2011 and 2015.
In 2015, Peacock was inducted into the FA Hall of Fame for outstanding contributions to coaching and for his management of 228 international matches. Later that year, he left the FA to become First Team Coach at Derby County FC for one season.
In 2017, Peacock was appointed as advisor/mentor to the England U-20 squad which went on to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup that same year. He also managed the U-19 and U-20 teams on many occasions and served as an assistant to the U-21 squad.
“To have a World Cup winner and two-time European Champion on staff is going to be vital at key stages of the year,” said Valour FC Head Coach & GM Rob Gale. “His knowledge, experience and persona will benefit Valour FC, Manitoba and Canadian soccer as a whole and is a massive coup for us.”
Peacock is also a FIFA Coach Instructor and delivers sessions in Africa, Asia and Oceania. In 2016, he conducted a review of football in China, from grassroots through to the National level at the request of the Chinese FA. As UEFA Technical Instructor and UEFA JIRA panel member, Peacock is responsible for helping oversee coaching education in Europe, regularly presenting at conferences around the world.
