MATCH PREVIEW:

Valour is 2-1-1 in its last four matches, including a 1-nil home loss to York United FC last weekend. That leaves the club in seventh place with 17 points, six out of a playoff spot with 10 matches remaining – seven of them at home.

This is the third of a four-match home stand for Valour following a 2-1 win over Forge and the loss to York and wraps up next Sunday against Vancouver FC.

Valour will be meeting a Wanderers squad just behind them in the standings with 16 points on a 4-4-9 record and arriving on a short week after a 2-nil loss to Forge on Wednesday.

Forward Jordi Swibel leads Valour with six goals, while midfielder Diogo Ressurreição and forward Shaan Hundal each have three. Goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi has three clean sheets, tied for third most in the CPL.

THE OTHER GUYS:

3 Facts about HFX Wanderers:

  • Former Valour star Sean Rea, the CPL’s top U-21 player in 2022, returns for the first time on Saturday as a member of the Wanderers. He’s made three appearances so far for his new club and is seeking his first goal.
  • Wanderers defender Daniel Nimick leads the club in goals with seven – six coming from the penalty spot, including two against Valour in their last meeting in Halifax.
  • Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar has been suspended for this match through yellow card accumulation and will not be on the sideline. His place will be taken by assistant coach Jorden Feliciano.

VALOUR FC SPOTLIGHT:

#23, Frankie Facchineri, centre back: Valour announced earlier this week it will retain the solid first-year centre back on his CPL-U Sports contract through the end of the season. Good call, as not only does that lock up a solid starter for the critical playoff push, it means the club will retain his rights for next season as well.

CRITICAL NUMBER

6

Valour fullback Themi Antonoglou has been arguably the squad’s best player this season and has repeatedly showcased his playmaking abilities while pushing forward. His six assists is tied for the CPL lead with York United forward Brian Wright.
