“So, for us to get a young domestic player and has the quality and the hunger to succeed is something we couldn’t overlook.”

Jordan Faria’s exceptional skillset and flashes of brilliance have long been visible to everyone who has followed Canadian footballers in this country.

And now Valour FC is hopeful the talented attacking midfielder/winger will take the next important steps in his career in their maroon, black and gold colours after announcing his addition on Monday.

“Jordan has always been viewed as a top prospect in this country,” said Valour GM and head coach Phillip Dos Santos of the club’s newest addition. “He’s an attacking midfielder-slash-winger with a lot of quality on the ball. He can take players on in the 1v1, but also plays well in between lines. He’s a good player who brings a different look to the way we can attack, and he has experience at the professional level.

“He came into games this year with the TFC MLS team (making his MLS debut for Toronto in a match against Austin FC in May) and so is someone who is going to come back to the CPL with a chip on his shoulder.

“So, for us to get a young domestic player and has the quality and the hunger to succeed is something we couldn’t overlook.”

Faria, 23, began playing in his hometown of Brampton, Ontario and was part of the TFC Academy beginning in 2016. He made his debut with Canada’s U-17 national team in the 2017 Concacaf U-17 championship and that year was a runner up for the Canada Soccer U17 Player of the Year award – won by now international superstar Alphonso Davies.

Faria played 12 CPL matches with York United in 2021, scoring once, and spent the 2022 season with Musan Salama of the Finnish Second Division, where he scored six goals in 20 appearances. He returned to Toronto FC II for a second stint last year, making 23 appearances and scoring four times.

“He’s matured to come to be the player he is today – someone who focusses more on the here and now and being the best version he can be on a daily basis,” said Dos Santos. “In my talks with him that’s what he’s taken from this whole experience. That shows he has matured to me and he’s going to be the best of himself.”
