MATCH #27

CAVALRY FC (12-8-5) vs VALOUR  FC (9-4-13)

When: Saturday, October 30, 2:30 p.m. CDT

Where: ATCO Field, Calgary, Ab.

How to watch: OneSoccer is broadcasting all CPL games live https://onesoccer.ca/

MATCH PREVIEW:

Valour’s playoff hopes are alive after last Tuesday’s win over HFX Wanderers, although they’ll need points in their last two matches and then hope for some help.

Valour is in sixth place in the CPL standings, three points behind Wanderers – who hold the fourth and final spot – and two back of fifth place York United FC. There are just two matches left on Valour’s schedule, today in Calgary and next week in Edmonton, while Wanderers play Forge FC and Atlético Ottawa and York United has three remaining: vs Pacific FC and two against Forge FC.

A stat that’s not very encouraging: Valour has not won a single game in league play on the road this year with one draw against eight losses. They did win a Canadian Championship game in Ottawa on August 21st.

3 VALOUR FC PLAYERS TO WATCH

#42 Rafael Galhardo, FW: The Brazilian vet was arguably the best player on the pitch in the win over Wanderers, scoring a goal and adding an assist on Sean Rea’s goal. More of the same will be critical for Valour to keep alive its playoff hopes.

#16 Daryl Fordyce, MF: You have to watch closely and over time to appreciate the calmness to his game and his decision making. Rarely an error with the ball on his foot from the Valour co-captain.

#1 Jonathan Sirois, GK: The rookie keeper on loan from CF Montreal leads the CPL in clean sheets, having earned his ninth of the season in the win over HFX.

INJURED

-Valour has been without dominant centre back Andrew Jean-Baptiste for most of the season after he suffered a torn ACL in the Kickoff bubble at the start of the season. Jean-Baptiste did sign a contract extension this week to remain with the club next season https://valourfc.canpl.ca/article/i-wanted-to-commit-to-them-we-want-to-achieve-big-things-here-andrew-jean-baptiste-returns-for-2022-season

-Forward and leading scorer Austin Ricci is also unavailable due to a knee injury suffered in the Canadian Championship quarterfinal loss to Forge FC.

SUSPENDED

-Midfielder Brett Levis will be unavailable due to yellow card accumulation
